SPECIES: Agave geminiflora

ORIGIN: Mexico

USES: Brilliant as a pot specimen or a focal point in the garden.


CHARACTERISTICS: Round symmetrical rosette of narrow, dark green leaves. Magnificent advanced pot specimen.

FOLIAGE: Leaves have fine white marginal fibres, and can be sharp on the ends.

FLOWER:Flower stalk is a narrow spike 4 metres tall. The flowers are greenish near the base, flushed with red or purple. Takes a long time to flower, up to 15 years.

HABIT: Upright rosette habit grows to 60cm in height and 60cm in width.

HARDINESS: Frost tender, drought tolerant and humidity tolerant.

CULTURE: In a pot use a premium potting mix, keep well drained, in ground prefers to be in free draining fertile soil.

POSITION: Prefers full sun to part shade (well lit patio).

CARE: Fertilise biannually with a 6-8 month slow release fertiliser.

WATER: Once established in ground has a low water requirement. In a pot keep moist and water when required.

FOLIAGE: Albertii is a rare variegated form of the New Zealand Cabbage tree. The leaves are heavily banded with rich creamy yellow to light brown stripes with a hint of red at the trunk.

HABIT: Upright weeping habit, grows to 4.0 m in height.

USES: Looks classy in a decorative pot and would also make an excellent addition to any garden.

HARDINESS: Albertii will tolerate light frosts, dry conditions and humid coastal conditions. Grows from Melbourne up to Townsville.

CULTURE: Albertii in ground prefers free draining soil, use a premium potting mix when planting in pots.

POSITION: Albertii prefers a sunny or partly shaded position.
